The International College for Maxillofacial Surgery (ICMFS) took part in the 28th Congress of the European Association for Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery (EACMFS), held in Athens, Greece, from September 15–18, 2026. ICMFS participated as a Guest Society, reflecting its growing international presence and its continuing contribution to education, professional collaboration and academic exchange in cranio-maxillofacial surgery.
The Athens meeting brought together leading professionals from around the world and provided an important setting for the exchange of knowledge, experience and contemporary developments in cranio-maxillofacial surgery. According to the ICMFS newsletter material, the participation of its President, President-Elect, Honorary Member and Council Members also created opportunities to strengthen professional networks and international collaboration.
ICMFS Presidium Meeting in EACMFS 2026 - September 15, 2026
ICMFS Presidium Meeting was convened at the Horizon Room, Divani Caravel Hotel, Athens, on September 15, 2026. The ICMFS was deeply honoured by the gracious presence and participation of Prof. Nicholas Kalavrezos,
President, EACMFS; Prof. Stefaan Berge, Senior President-Elect, EACMFS; and Prof. Jatin Shah, Honorary Member, ICMFS, who kindly accepted the invitation and attended the meeting, as well as the other ICMFS Council Members.
Their distinguished presence and valuable contributions added immense prestige and significance to the occasion.
ICMFS Guest Society Session - September 18, 2026
The ICMFS Guest Society Session, held on September 18, 2026, as part of the 28th EACMFS Congress in Athens, was a significant academic component of the ICMFS participation at the Congress. The-session brought together distinguished faculty to share contemporary experience, evolving concepts, and innovative approaches in cranio-maxillofacial surgery.
With participation from leading surgeons representing different regions of the world, the session reflected the truly international character of ICMFS and its commitment to promoting meaningful academic exchange beyond geographical and institutional boundaries. The scientific deliberations encompassed the evolution of established surgical practices alongside newer concepts in diagnosis, treatment planning, reconstructive surgery, surgical technology and advanced clinical management.
The breadth of expertise represented in the session demonstrated the increasingly multidisciplinary nature of modern cranio-maxillofacial surgery and the importance of integrating clinical experience, technological innovation and emerging scientific knowledge in addressing complex surgical problems. The enthusiastic participation of the audience and the presence of ICMFS representatives and invited faculty at the Congress podium further underscored the visibility of the College within this major European scientific forum. The concluding group photograph captured the collective participation of the ICMFS faculty and colleagues, symbolising the spirit of international cooperation that characterised the session.
The Guest Society programme was particularly important in the context of ICMFS’s broader participation in the EACMFS
Congress. The invitation to ICMFS as a Guest Society represented recognition of the College’s growing international academic presence and provided an important opportunity to strengthen its relationship with the European cranio-maxillofacial surgical community. Together, these activities enabled ICMFS to combine organisational engagement with substantive scientific participation, creating opportunities for continued cooperation, exchange of expertise and development of future academic initiatives.
The successful conduct of the Guest Society Session therefore represented more than a formal scientific program It was an important opportunity for ICMFS to present its academic strength, facilitate international dialo and reinforce its role as a global platform for education, professional collaboration and advancement in crai maxillofacial surgery. The strong international participation reflected the College’s commitment to connec surgeons and academic communities and advancing patient care, education, research, and innovation.
